Wondering what to expect?
On Sunday mornings, the Transfiguration community gathers to sing, pray, hear a sermon, greet each other, share announcements, and celebrate Communion before being sent out into the world with a blessing. We gather twice, once at 9:00AM at a special service for young families and once at 10:30AM for intergenerational worship, and each service is followed by coffee and the opportunity to catch up with friends and get to know newer members of the parish.
What should I wear?
Whatever you want. There is no dress code and you will see some in jeans and flip flops and others in 'Sunday best.'
I've never been to an Episcopal service. What am I supposed to do?
There is no wrong way to worship. Many of our members come from other faith backgrounds, or no faith background at all! You will fit right in. When you arrive, you will be handed a bulletin by a greeter, which will help you follow along. Come back a time or two and it will soon be familiar.
I'm differently-abled. Do you have accommodations for me?
Yes! There is disabled parking available at the top of the hill and you can access the sanctuary from there as well. The pews can be easily rearranged to make room for a wheelchair or walker--ask a greeter for help. While most parishioners go forward to the altar for communion, you may also receive communion in your seat. Hearing assistance is available, and arrangements can be made for large-print bulletins. Need something else? Ask and we'll make it happen.
I'm ______. Am I still welcome?
Yes. Everyone is welcome, no matter their age, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, race, marital status, or socio-economic background. Transfiguration is an inclusive and welcoming congregation. Click here to see what inclusivity looks like at Transfiguration.
Are you family friendly?
Yes! Our Joyful Noise service at 9:00 on Sunday mornings is especially geared towards families with young children from 0-5. It is a shorter service with an age-appropriate liturgy. Children of all ages are welcome at the 10:30AM service as well. Childcare is provided for the youngest and there is a soft space at the back of the sanctuary where they can play. Older children can participate in children's activities during the sermon. We also offer a youth group after the service twice a month (sixth grade and up). Our children are full members of the congregation and you will see children leading and participating in the service in all kinds of ways.
How do I get involved?
We love welcoming new members. Come to one of our events, join the book club, sing in the choir, serve as a sacristan, a Eucharistic Minister, or an acolyte, come to Faith Lab, participate in a retreat, study the Bible with us at Gospel Preview, join the prayer group on Wednesday mornings, or take the lead on a new ministry if you are so inclined--many of our groups and ministries are lay-led and we welcome new initiatives.
