In our children’s and youth programs at Transfiguration we honor the spiritual development of our children. All of our programs use an emergent curriculum model that encourages exploration of spiritual ideas through open-ended questions and reflection. From the earliest ages we allow children to develop their personal sense of the presence of God and their unique spirituality. In our Joyful Noise service we tell the stories of our faith and conclude them each week with wondering questions.
Our Community of Wonder (C.O.W) continues the pattern of wondering and personal exploration for school age children. The children in C.O.W are older and are developing a deeper understanding of their relationship with God. They are also experiencing a loving community that accepts them for who they are. Through prayer, Bible stories, meditation, crafts and service projects, we create opportunities for children to develop their spirituality. In Faith Lab, youth explore their faith and ask questions in a safe space. As they approach adolescence, teens experience a deepening of their spiritual capacity. Faith Lab is a place where they explore big questions in a variety of ways and continue their quest to know God. Virtual reality, film making, comic drawing, games and lots of costumes have all helped us to look at faith and spirituality through different lenses. |
The common thread through all of our programs is a sense of community and wonder. As the program year begins today, I am blessed to be able to share in that spiritual journey. Thank you for being a part of a community that loves and supports its children and all their wondering as they grow and develop their own relationship with God.

SUNDAY MORNING FOR KIDS AND TEENS
Community of Wonder (C.O.W.) takes place during the Musical Eucharist at 10:30 am. Children gather with their families in the church for the beginning of the worship service. Clergy bless children & youth and co-leaders before they go to their sessions. Co-leaders accompany children back to the Church for the Eucharist.
Community of Wonder (grade K-12): Children and leaders explore a story from Scripture together and participate in activities related to the week's theme, including crafts, games, and service projects. Parents and other adult parishioners serve as co-leaders on a rotational basis. Every second Sunday of the month, for Second Sunday Surprise, parishioners are invited to share their interests and passions with the children during this time.
Faith Lab (grade 6-12): Faith Lab meets twice a month. Through conversations and activities geared to their interests, youth explore their faith.
