OverviewFor over 30 years Transfiguration Nursery School has helped preschoolers and kindergartners enjoy learning and growing. Three and four year olds participate in programs designed especially for their abilities and interests. Five year olds in the school's small kindergarten class expand their social skills, satisfy their curiosity and prepare themselves for first grade. The school's environment is designed for children. Visitors to Transfiguration Nursery School enter through a playground filled with a variety of climbing, sliding, riding, and digging activities. Large motor skills are developed as children climb and ride the bikes. A brightly decorated hallway leads to five separate rooms: the Big Room, Art Room, Dress-up Room, Computer Room, and the Kindergarten Classroom. This unique floor plan offers a cheerful, home-like setting designed to encourage every aspect of the child's growth.
Each nursery school class has four experienced and well-qualified teachers. They all work closely with Nursery School Director Karen Indorante to ensure that every child is given individual attention and the opportunity to learn at their own speed. Each teacher understands the needs and abilities of even the youngest child. Ms. Indorante and her staff have developed a program for each age group. Every child in the school enjoys personal attention, rewarding interpersonal activities with their classmates, challenging new experiences, and colorful hands-on projects. Every activity at Transfiguration is geared to your child's ability. Please email Karen Indorante for more information about this school. Different Needs of Different AgesThree year olds entering Transfiguration receive extra special attention to make their first time at school as enjoyable as possible. The three year old class meets on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-12:00 noon. Your child will learn a new color every week, have fun with some traditional Nursery Rhymes, share their favorirte Teddy Bear on Bear Day, wear their pajamas on Pajama Day, and celebrate every holiday and birthday on the calendar. Social skills and self-esteem begin to grow in these three year olds. Four year olds continue to learn and experience new and exciting skills as they play with their friends old and new. The four year old class meets Monday-Wednesday-Friday mornings from 9:30 to 12:00 or afternoons from 12:30 to 3:00. Your child has a longer attention span and a zillion questions about himself and the world around him. Four year olds will learn colors, shapes, and the alphabet. They will have interesting and informative learning unis on the solar system and space, dental health, nutrition, plants, and animals. They will participate in Teddy Bear Day and Olympics Day. Highlights of the four year old program include chaperoned field trips to the pumpkin farm, library, Coyote Point Museum, Indian Springs Park and a grocery store. Our year-end graduation picnic is a real celebration!! Pre-Kindergarten is an addition to the regular four year old class. The class is designed to answer the needs of children entering Kindergarten the following September. This limited enrollment class meets Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:00 beginning in October. The individual success of each child is the key to a carefully sequenced and comprehensive readiness program. The Lippincott Beginning Readiness Program helps each chiled build their own shapebooks to guide them through the skills and concepts necessary to insure later success in reading, writing, science, mathematics, and social studies. Your child will improve his or her auditory and visual discrimination, practice oral expression, and develop fine motor skills that require good eye-hand coordination. Learning is made interesting with cutting, pasting, tracing, folding, and creating. Children will learn to listen and follow directions so they don't miss any of the fun!!! Kindergarten at Transfiguration provides a rich academic program that will stimulate your child's curiousity and eagerness to learn while building self-esteem and social skills. The Kindergarten class meets from 8:45 to 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday. The class size is limited to be sure your child receives the individual attention she or he deserves. Our rich curriculum includes reading, math, science, social studies, art, computers, and music. Mathematics Their Way is used to build a solid foundation in math. Manipulatives from the very popular "junk boxes" make understanding abstract math concepts a "hands-on" activity. The Lippincott Beginning to Read, Write and Listen program is a phonics approach that includes letter writing, art, comprehension, literature, and listening skills. Special opportunities for our Kindergartners are trips to a Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Farm, the post office, the Teddy Bear Factory, Hidden Villa Farm, and plays presented by the Performing Arts for Youth Society. Kindergarten classes prepare a Thanksgiving Feast in the fall and a delicious Mother's Day Luncheon in the spring. The children sing like angels for family and friends in December and proudly graduate in caps and gowns in June. KIndergarten at Transfiguration creates happy memories and well-prepared first graders. Transfiguration is a place for children... |
