Music is a gift from God. The ancient Israelites viewed the singing of Psalms not so much as a luxury, but an absolute necessity for worship. Over time, the order for worship has evolved around singing, and we are blessed to have amassed such a rich history of music written for no other reasons than the glorification of God and the refreshment of the spirit. It is a treat to be able to participate in this tradition and have our faith informed by our heritage of singing. Music is one way in which we can celebrate the life of God in our community. It gathers people together, whether as a choir or congregation in such a way that suspends our human imperfections and allows the Divine to fully shine through. We are blessed to have Matthew Burt directing our music ministry at Transfiguration. He brings great skill, energy and dedication to our musical life.
Transfiguration is blessed with a newly refurbished Reuter organ and a completely redesigned interior. The redesign of our church included a new wooden floor with a stage area that has created superlative acoustics for musical performance and worship.
We are at a stage in our parish life where we would wish to maximize these assets and build on the foundations of our current musical tradition. We have two services on a Sunday morning that involve music, a 9:30 a.m. Joyful Noise Eucharist and a 10:30 a.m. Musical Eucharist with choir. We would like to maintain and develop a tradition of choral music, with flexibility and creativity in terms of style. We would also like to grow our musical tradition for children.
Parish Choir
We have a wonderful choir that provides a music ministry to our parish and nourishes our need for community through singing. If you have any interest in singing with us, please come along and try it out for a Sunday and see if you like it! We rehearse every other Thursday at 7:30pm and sing every Sunday. Please know that we accept people of all ability levels! Please do not hesitate to contact Matthew if you have any questions.
